AUDITION NOTICE – Our Town – 5/22


Auditions for Our Town: Sunday, May 22 6-10pm

We are seeking a self-motivated cast of all ages to work on this beautiful piece.
Our Town will be performed outside by the water at the Mass Arts Center.


This timeless drama of life in the mythical village of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, has become an American classic with universal appeal. Thornton Wilder’s most frequently performed play, Our Town appeared on Broadway in 1938 to wide acclaim, and won the Pulitzer Prize. From the very beginning, Our Town has been produced throughout the world.

The role of the Stage Manager has already been cast, but all other roles are open.

Auditions will be held on Sunday May 22, 2022 at the Mass Arts Center,  888 South Main Street, Mansfield MA 02048 from 6-10pm. 

Actors should prepare a 1-2 minute monologue, and be prepared to participate in cold readings from the script. 

Actors will be seen in two hour slots (6pm-8pm or 8:00-10:00pm), and should expect to stay for the full two hours if possible. 

Rehearsals for Our Town will begin in mid June.

**All actors should bring with them their schedule so they can fill out an accurate conflict sheet as part of the audition process.


EMILY WEBB: Our ingenue. We follow her from a precocious young girl through her wedding to George Gibbs and her early death. Emily will be called to almost all rehearsals.

GEORGE GIBBS: the boy next door, a kind but irresponsible teenager who matures over time and becomes a responsible husband, father and farmer. George will be called to most rehearsals. 

DR. FRANK GIBBS: George’s father, the town doctor. 

MRS. JULIA (HERSEY) GIBBS: George and Rebecca’s mother

REBECCA GIBBS: George’s younger sister. Later elopes with a traveling salesman and settles in Ohio

MRS. WEBB: Myrtle. Emily and Wally’s mother. 

WALLY WEBB: Emily’s younger brother. Dies of a burst appendix on a Boy Scout camping trip. 

MR. WEBB: Emily’s father, Editor of the Grover’s Corners Sentinel

SIMON STIMSON: The choir director and church organist. 

JOE CROWELL / SI CROWELL: local paperboys. 

HOWIE NEWSOME: the milkman, a fixture of Grover’s Corners.

PROFESSOR WILLARD: a rather long-winded lecturer 

MRS. LOUELLA SOAMES: a gossipy townswoman and member of the choir 

CONSTABLE WARREN: the policeman 

SAM CRAIG: a nephew of Mrs Gibbs who left town to seek his fortune. 

JOE STODDARD: the undertaker
