Video Game Design and VFX Workshop

Wednesdays, September 13, 20, 27, and October 4, 2023; 4-5:30pm
$250 per person
This class series will be taking a deep dive into the world of CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) specifically as it relates to video game design. This workshop will meet online one night a week for 4 weeks and cover the following topics and creative exercises:
Week 1: History of video games and VFX (Visual Effects).
History of VFX and video game lecture with visual aids. Learn about animation and make a flip book!
Week 2: Concept art and what it means. Lecture on famous concept artists, what makes them great, and how concept art is used to create the final product. You will create concepts of a ‘world’ and its characters based on written prompts.
Week 3: Learn about storyboards and character design.
Draw storyboards and characters from the concepts discussed in previous class.
Week 4: Learn about environments and level building and level design. Lecture on architecture and how levels are created to craft an experience. Draw and design a level footprint for a video game.

Alison brings her expertise and years of experience as a CG Designer and Concept Artist, and is known for her work on such films as A Christmas Carol (2009), Happy Feet Two (2011) and Mars Needs Moms (2011). Her bio includes working with Disney, Warner Bros., 2K Games, and presently with Ghost Story Games Studio in Boston.
