The Mass Arts Center announces open auditions for Cabaret (1998 Version)

In a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920s draw to a close, a garish Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the Cabaret. With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary, Cabaret explores the dark, heady and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately taken with English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish. Musical numbers include “Willkommen,” “Cabaret,” “Don’t Tell Mama” and “Two Ladies.”

Monday August 4, 2025 6:00-10:00 pm
Tuesday August 5, 2025 6:00-7:00 pm

Callbacks:
Tuesday August 5, 2025 starting at 7:30 pm

For preliminary auditions, actors will book a time during a 60 minute slot. Actors should prepare 32-64 bars of a song either from or in the style of the show. Actors will sing then be asked to do cold readings from the script. Headshots and resumes are encouraged/appreciated but not required.

Actors who are under consideration for the Emcee, Sally Bowles, and the Kit Kat Dancers must attend the Dance Audition at callbacks on Tuesday August 5th.

Rehearsals:
Rehearsals will occur primarily on Sundays, Tuesdays, & a third day TBD
Rehearsals will begin the week of 8/24/2025.

Production Dates:
Cabaret will run for three weekends from November 7 – November 23, including two Thursday night performances on 11/13 & 11/20.

We are also seeking 4-6 additional cast members for smaller ensemble roles and to be Kit Kat Club Patrons, a great way to be involved with low rehearsal commitment!
