Margie Walsh can’t catch a break. For her and her friends in Boston’s Southie neighborhood, this month’s paycheck covers last month’s bills, and a night on the town means a few rounds of bingo. When Margie is let go from yet another job, she scrambles to avoid eviction by reconnecting with an old flame from the neighborhood who is now a successful doctor. Could he be her ticket to a fresh new start? In Good People, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire explores issues of race, class and resilience with keen insight, humanity and surprising humor.
Please be advised Good People features mature language and themes.

Christian Roulleau (Mike) is a frequent presence on MAC stages where he has appeared in The Tempest (Antonio), Assassins (Charles Guiteau), Noises Off (Lloyd Dallas), How the Other Half Loves (Frank Foster), Our Town (Doc Gibbs), Sweeney Todd (Sweeney), Measure for Measure (Angelo), Romeo and Juliet (Mercutio), Macbeth (Macbeth), and—in his first collaboration with director Bill Deschenes and much of this cast and production team—last season’sGypsy (Various). Christian received his MFA from American Repertory Theater/Moscow Art Theatre and has performed in New York and internationally. Some favorite roles from beyond MAC include Max in Bent, Kilroy in Camino Real, Bosie in Gross Indecency, Lorenzo in Melancholy Play, Dionysos in The Bacchae, Shatov in Dostoevsky’s Demons, and John Jasper in The Mystery of Edwin Drood. As always, Christian offers neverending thanks to his family for their love and support. They are truly good people.
Jacqueline Sophia (Kate) is honored to make her Mass Arts Center debut under the guidance of William Deschenes with this stellar cast and crew and telling this incredible story. No stranger to community theater, some of her favorite productions include: Twelfth Night ( Duke Orsino), Arsenic And Old Lace (Elaine), Noises Off (Vicki/Brooke) and Boeing Boeing (Gloria). Jacqueline enjoys spending time with her family, fur babies and friends.
Carol Drewes (Dottie) marked her first role onstage as Mother Duck in the West Simsbury CT Elementary School production of Make Way For Ducklings. Based in Providence, Rhode Island, Carol has also lived in Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, and New Hampshire. Dog walking, part-time library work, and Social Security currently allow Carol to make acting her priority pursuit. Most memorable productions: my descendant Nova Drewes, and being a part of 2nd Act, which uses theatre, film, and drama therapy to address the impact of substance abuse. https://www.caroldrewes.com
Jennifer Shotkin (Jean) is thrilled to be back on the MAC stage after last being seen as Charlotte in Moon Over Buffalo in 2022. Some of her other favorite roles include Patsy in Side Man, Camila in In the Heights, and Fin in Love is a Blue Tick Hound, for which she won a DASH Award for Excellence in Acting. When she is not performing, Jen is the Service Director for Pepper’s Artful Events (shout out to my Pepper’s Peeps!) and will never turn down an opportunity to sing karaoke.
Andrew Scanlan (Stevie) is relatively new to the stage. He was raised in North Attleboro, MA. He has been a cast member in productions of Jekyll and Hyde: The Musical at Norwood Theater and The Tragedy of Macbeth at The Mass Arts Center. He is very excited to be taking on the role of Stevie in Good People.
Kate deLima (Margaret) is thrilled to return to the Mass Arts Center stage under Bill’s direction after appearing in his 2024 production of GYPSY. Last century, Kate sang and danced on the cruise ship Saga Rose, toured nationally as Rose in Meet Me in St. Louis, and, as a member of Actors’ Equity Association, played leads like Eliza in My Fair Lady, Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof, and Guenevere in Camelot at professional theaters around the U.S. After returning to the Boston area in the 2000s, Kate loved rejoining community theater and digging into roles like Princess Puffer in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Wanda in Wandaleria, Trina in Falsettos, and the Chaperone in The Drowsy Chaperone. She took a decade off to play Mom, and was delighted to get back on stage last year as Helen Hubbard in Murder on the Orient Express, Mazeppa/Miss Cratchitt in Gypsy, and Jack’s Mother in Into the Woods. Kate’s love and thanks go out to David, Marley, Alice, and Henry.
William Deschenes (Director) After directing last year’s production of Gypsy, Bill is honored to return to Mass Arts Center’s Reservoir Stage, especially with such a brilliant play as Good People. Other shows Bill has directed include Into the Woods, Chicago, Mamma Mia!, A Christmas Carol–The Musical, A Chorus Line, Chapter Two and Rabbit Hole (another masterpiece written by David Lindsay-Abaire). When not on the community theater scene, Bill is a Theater Arts teacher in the Milton Public Schools where he has directed many plays and musicals. Among his favorites are You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, The Wizard of Oz, Singin’ in the Rain, Hello Dolly!, Once on This Island, and The Odd Couple as well as his own adaptations of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Bill would like to extend his sincere gratitude to the very “good people” of this cast and production team and much love to his family for their understanding and support.
Nicholas Maloof (Assistant Director/Costume Designer) is a graduate of Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre and Arts and Entertainment Management. This is his first time as a solo costume designer and assistant director. Past productions include Mamma Mia (Stadium Theatre) and La Bete (Dean College). He is a resident of Providence, Rhode Island. By day, you can find him tending bar at Angelo’s Palace Pizza in Cumberland, Rhode Island; by night, you can usually find him on the other side of the bar somewhere downtown. Instagram: @nicomaloof
Rebecca Muller (Stage Manager) is very excited to be making her stage managing debut with the incredibly talented cast and creative team of Good People and is very grateful for the trust and confidence the team has placed in her! Rebecca has been a vocal performer and musician for most of her life, and rejoined community theatre after a hiatus in 2022. Since then she has performed in many projects as an actor and most recently performed as both Janet Van de Graaf and Kitty in The Drowsy Chaperone in Swansea, MA and in the ensemble of Gypsy at Mass Arts Center. Rebecca would especially like to thank her friends, family, husband, and fur babies for their unending support and love.
David Lindsay-Abaire (Author) is a Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, screenwriter, lyricist and librettist. He grew up in South Boston but won a scholarship to attend high school at Milton Academy in Milton, Massachusetts. Everyday he took the train to the prestigious, private school and then returned to his modest, working-class neighborhood. Lindsay-Abaire revealed in interviews that as a result, he felt like he was straddling two different worlds and not truly comfortable in either one of them. His play Good People premiered on Broadway, was awarded the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play, The Horton Foote Prize, The Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award, and two Tony nominations. His previous play Rabbit Hole received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, five Tony nominations, and the Spirit of America Award. David also wrote the book and lyrics for Shrek the Musical (Jeanine Tesori, composer), which was nominated for eight Tonys. David’s other plays include Ripcord, Fuddy Meers, Kimberly Akimbo, Wonder of the World and A Devil Inside, among others.
