Comedy Night – Saturday, May 29 – $20
Drive-in, sit-down, stand-up comedy returns to Mass Music & Arts Society’s Arts Center at Great Woods on Saturday, May 29 with one show at 8 p.m. The outdoor shows take place behind the theater, 888 South Main Street in Mansfield (across from the xFinity Center).
The season-opening show features MMAS favorites including headliner Paul Nardizzi, Sean Sullivan, host Dave Rattigan, and newcomer Holly Johnson.
Tickets are $20 per person, and patrons can look toward the stage and the picturesque Norton Reservoir. Beer and wine will be available, and there will be a tent to protect the audience in case of rain.
Many of our audience members said that getting out of their homes and coming to our shows last summer was a great release for them on Saturday nights, even if they were sitting in their cars or on lawn chairs in a parking lot. This year we’ve made some changes that will enhance the audience experience. People are really going to have a great time.”Ken Butler, executive director, MMAS
Other dates for standup comedy this summer are June 12, June 26, July 24, August 7 and August 21.
Paul Nardizzi is one of the country’s top comedians, with multiple standup appearances on NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Comedy Central, and Fox Sports’ Best Damn Sports Show Period, as well as regional appearances on NESN. A former winner of the 2001 Boston Comedy Festival, Nardizzi is in demand for theater shows, corporate functions, colleges, golf tournaments, and fundraisers. His CD has been played on Sirius Satellite Radio and he’s a prolific author of humor books, including the hilarious Things That Might Annoy … series, which pokes fun at Yankee fans, Jets fans, Republicans, and Democrats.
Sean Sullivan hasn’t appeared at MMAS since his fantastically-received headlining appearance in 2017. He’s performed on Comedy Central and sold out performances at some of the biggest clubs and theaters in New England, Sean’s quick wit and loose, improvisational style has made him a stand out in the Boston Comedy scene.
Holly Johnston is a new comedian making a strong impression on the Boston Comedy scene, despite the restrictions that come with a global pandemic. She’s worked from Rhode Island to Maine, at socially distanced indoor and outdoor gigs, Zoom shows, and anything else that’s come her way.
Dave Rattigan returns this year to host all of the Saturday comedy shows. His CD (Dave Rattigan: Thinks He’s Funny) has received airplay on Sirius satellite radio and other stations and podcasts, and his video clips run on NickMom.com and RooftopComedy.com. He’s made appearances on the syndicated Steve Katsos Show, and lent his voice to the animated Drill Booth, scheduled for 2020 release. He’s performed in Ireland at the Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in Kilkenny, and at the Hampton Beach (NH) Comedy Festival, the Boston Comedy Festival, and the Women in Comedy Festival.
