Comedy Night – August 7 – $20

Radio and comedy stage favorite Stephen Donovan headlines as Outdoor Comedy returns to the MMAS Arts Center at Great Woods on Saturday, August 7. The outdoor shows will be held at 888 South Main St., Mansfield (across from the XFinity Center), at 6 and 8 p.m.

Donovan appears with three other Boston comedians: Janet McNamara, James Hamilton and host Dave Rattigan. The show is presented by MMAS and Scamps Comedy Productions.

Tickets are $20 per person, and patrons can look toward the stage and the picturesque Norton Reservoir. Cooked food will be available for purchase at 5 p.m., then 7:30 p.m., prior to each show. Food donations benefit Dana Farber’s Pan Mass Challenge. Beer and wine will also be available, with proceeds benefiting MMAS. There will be a tent to protect the audience in case of rain.

Many of our audience members said that getting out of their homes and coming to our shows last summer was a great release for them on Saturday nights, even if they were sitting in their cars or on lawn chairs in a parking lot. This year we’ve made some changes that will enhance the audience experience. People are really going to have a great time.”

Ken Butler, executive director, MMAS

Other dates for standup comedy this summer are August 7 and August 21.

About the comedians

Steve Donovan was a weekday morning fixture on Lite Rock 105, and spends his nights entertaining audiences at top comedy clubs, restaurants and theaters around New England. The multi-talented Donovan has acted in the iconic play “Shear Madness” and several regional television commercials, and been a host of shows such as NESN’s “The Batter’s Box” and WBZ’s “Community Auditions.” He released a standup DVD, “One Night in Shirley.” He is proud to have been recognized by the Susan G. Komen Foundation for his ongoing fundraising efforts in the fight against breast cancer.

Janet McNamara is a Boston-based comic with a conversational style and awkwardly charming energy. Earlier this year, she was selected to perform in the prestigious Hampton Beach Comedy Festival (August 19-22). The former finalist in the Boston Comedy Festival contest, McNamara won the 2014 BeanTown Comedy Riots and has been featured in Boston’s Women in Comedy Festival, the Ashville Comedy Festival and Burbank Comedy Festival. You might also recognize her as being the ‘Golden Idol’ winner for the worst audition of American Idol season 10, an appearance that introduced a national audience to her joie de vivre and infectious energy. McNamara doesn’t speak French.

Lowell’s James Hamilton is a rising star on the Boston comedy scene, opening for acts such as Steve Sweeney, Tony V., Christine Hurley, Joe Yannetty and more. He’s also performed for homeless people at dive bars all around Greater Lowell.

Dave Rattigan returns as host. Of all of the parking lots he’s performed in, he rates the one at the Norton Reservoir as the best. His CD has been played on Sirius Satellite Radio, and he’s performed on TV’s “The Steve Katsos Show.” He’s done commercials for Olympia Sports and iParty, and performed in Dublin and Kilkenny, Ireland, in a fringe show at the Cat’s Laugh Comedy Festival. He’s been a featured performer at the Hampton Beach Comedy Festival, the Boston Comedy Festival, Salem Comedy & Spirits Festival and Women in Comedy Festival. He also runs Scamps Comedy Productions, which produces live comedy shows including the shows at MMAS.
