Become a Sustaining Member
Dear Valued Mass Arts Center Patron,
Many of you have heard my story of founding the company with just $8 in a Maxwell House coffee can. I think it speaks so well to the grassroots nature of our arts community – the shared belief in our mission and work have allowed us to grow into the organization we are today.
As the founder of the Mass Arts Center, I am hoping that our most loyal patrons and supporters will join me in the spirit of those humble beginnings and become a sustaining member. Nobody understands better than you – our loyal patrons, actors, directors, artists, and friends who have been a part of our story and success – the enjoyment and pride the Mass Arts Center has provided all these years.
What is a sustaining member? A sustaining member makes a small, monthly gift that provides reliable, steady revenue towards our operations. You will receive special opportunities to purchase tickets before our shows are first put up for sale to the public. Also, unlike other patrons for whom all sales are final, sustaining members will be allowed to exchange their tickets up to 48 hours before a show opens. Best of all, you will be a guiding, crucial partner in keeping the arts alive in our community.
How much do you need to give to be a sustaining member? We ask that supporters consider giving $20 per month, but a minimum of $8.00 monthly will make you a sustaining member. Monthly giving is a convenient and manageable way to give that has the potential to dramatically improve our operations, returning us to pre-pandemic levels.

We are doing our part, too! There’s never been a better time to lend your support to the Mass Arts Center. We’ve undertaken major improvements to bring greater value to your theater and art experience. For instance, we have:
- purchased a 3-acre waterfront lot and renovated the existing building;
- increased seating capacity almost 40%;
- added a bright new Morini Art Gallery;
- increased the parking lot from 78 spaces to 132 spaces;
- improved our office, educational, and backstage spaces (like the technical booth, green room and rehearsal studio).
Now our focus has turned to keeping the Mass Arts Center financially viable for the next three to five years in this post pandemic atmosphere. Leadership, board, and staff will continue to focus on increasing program/show revenue, annual campaigns, fundraising events, and securing grants.
Part of this strategic plan includes you and harnessing the tremendous energy from our most loyal friends to re-energize our monthly giving program. By becoming a sustaining member, you give not only a monetary gift but a vote of confidence; a strong and deep bench of monthly support increases the impact of those sustaining gifts by encouraging other potential donors and foundations to give.
So, my very personal and humble request of you today is to please consider becoming a sustaining member with a gift of $20, $10, or even as little as $8 (remember that coffee can!) each month to support the programs at the Mass Arts Center and with it, send us your personal vote of confidence. I look forward to sharing with you many more exciting seasons in the years to come. In the meantime, I’ll keep an eye out for your sustaining membership form and adding you to the list of generous patrons who will invest in the quality programs of the Mass Arts Center!
With sincere appreciation for all you do (and continue to do) for the arts,
Ken Butler
Founder and Executive Director
